Happy is he who has the God of Jacob for his help, Whose hope is in the Lord his God. - Psalm 146:5
Today did not start as I had hoped. I didn’t want to begin my 38th birthday disappointed, discouraged and fearful. But, I did....at midnight. I tossed and turned thinking about the future, worrying about what it held.
As I woke this morning, praying, I felt the Holy Spirit whisper to me, “Where is your hope?” All throughout Scripture, we are reminded that our hope is not of this world. Our hope does not come from anything or anyone in this world. Our hope is in the Lord. Hallelujah!
For You are my hope, O Lord God; You are my trust from my youth. - Psalm 71:5
Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, and whose hope is in the Lord. - Jeremiah 17:7
And now, Lord, what do I wait for? My hope is in You. - Psalm 39:7
So, today I have a choice. I can wallow in disappointment, discouragement and fear or I can place it all in the hands of the Lord Who is my Hope. And, since He is my hope, I still have great reason to celebrate. In fact, I have many! Here are just a few....
Jesus is King! Even better, He’s MY King! He’s my Savior, Deliverer, Redeemer, Friend. He is my Peace, my Comfort, my ever present Help in time of trouble. And, He’s SO MUCH MORE!
I have the most AMAZING husband. He loves me unconditionally. He works hard for our family, taking on two jobs in the last four years, working 70-80 hours a week. Yet, he still has time for his family. He still makes time for me. He is an outstanding dad, making the most of his time at home. None of us could ever doubt his love for us.
I have been blessed with four of the best kids ever! I can’t believe when I started this journey, I begged God for just one child. And, He quadrupled that blessing. I may be tired and worn out at the end of the day, but their hugs, kisses and smiles warm me to the core and help me see the worth in what I do. I thank God every day for each one of them. My kids are proof that His ways are higher than mine.
My family rocks! I have loving parents and a sister who is my best friend. My in-laws are an extension of my family. And, yes, I actually LIKE my in-laws and they like me (I think!)! I have the sweetest nieces and nephews who are best friends to my kids.
I am blessed with some really great friends. And not just acquaintances or “Facebook” friends. But real, true friends. Call-in-the-middle-of-the-night friends. Shirt-off-their-backs friends. Praying friends! I’m so grateful for them.
I have an incredible church and church family. I love my church and look forward to EVERY Sunday. It’s a place where the Word is taught, people are loved and Jesus is King! There's something about worshiping with my church family that lifts my spirits each and every week. It's a place where the Spirit is moving and working. A place where the hurting are helped and the hungry are fed.
I could go on and on.....
So with all these blessings and more, I have to ask myself,
Why are you down in the dumps, dear soul? Why are you crying the blues? Fix my eyes on God - soon I’ll be praising again. He puts a smile on my face. He’s my God. - Psalm 43:5
Ahhhhh, I feel better already! It’s going to be a GREAT day!
